The name of the village derives from the spoken phrase: “Grem v Oščico” - I am going to Oščica (from the word ošče, oušice, vušice – a narrow). Later a “j” was added to the word, as this is a common feature in dialects. It is said that Gornja vas (the Upper village) belonged to Counts from Rihenberg while Spodnja vas (the Lower village) was under the Counts of Duino. They fought with each other therefore the village was named Vojščica (vojskovati – to fight). The village has some well-preserved Karst houses, wells and a NOB monument. On the rising Tabor, by the cemetery, are the remains of an ancient fort. Here stood a wooden chapel of the Counts of Duino. A well-preserved herdsman’s cottage near the remains is worth to see. In the village vicinity are two caves: Povčeva jama cave (it is said that in 19th century many French were thrown in it) Grajščica cave and a hollow valley on Lukovo.

Automobiles : The village is situated on the main road Kostanjevica – Komen.
