The village was first mentioned as the property of the monastery in Rožac
(Rosazzo). It was renowned as the village of stonemasons with its masonry
school. A quarry of white marble from Kopriva also stands in the vicinity.
The efforts of stonemasons and stonecutters can be noticed on numerous
houses with fine architectural details. Near the village square, which is
adorned with majestic lime trees stands the church of St. Peter.
During the Second World War the XIX. Slovene Assault brigade of national
liberation and the Srečko Kosovel partisan detachment were founded, whi-
ch is commemorated by memorial plaques. A relay courier station, called
P13 also worked here.
