First records about the village’s history date back in time of the nobility of
Duino. In the First World War the Austrian soldiers had arranged several
posts and a hospital. Villagers had to abandon their houses and became
refugees. In the village’s surroundings are four Austro-Hungarian cemete-
ries and also remains of the narrow military railway line.
Another interesting sight that cannot be left out is the village well with a
magnificently elaborated upper, visible part of the well (“šapa”) and some
beautiful carved ornaments. Do not overlook a pil in the village’s centre
and several arches, consoles and window frames. Those who like to enjoy
in real culinary delights of Karst should visit the two “osmica” that are
opened in spring and summer.
