The village Erzelj spreads out over a ridge above the Upper Vipava Valley. Since it consists of 7 settlements, one could say it is rather big, but if we take into consideration the number of its inhabitants, it is one of the smallest.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION: Already in the 14th century, Aquillean patriarchs had a castle on the hill Tabor. The fortress later protected the inhabitants of the nearby villages from Turks' invasions. Today only the walls are preserved, but visitors can take a look at the Church of St. Micheal, which is located on the top of the hill Tabor and is visible for miles around. Paintings of St. Michael, St. Florien and St. Barbara, which decorate the church, were made by the painter Simon Ogrin in the 19th century.
The village is included in the project
Vipava wine road.
Automobiles :
A visitor who is coming from Razdrto toward Vipava, using the old road, turns left toward the village Manče a bit before Vipava and continues towards Štanjel.
