The settlement of Ivanjkovci developed by the main road Ormož – Ljutomer, and by the railway line with the railway station. The new part originated on a rise above the right bank of the Lahonščica stream where today also stands the school. The third more eastern, elevated area is called Ivanjkovščak.
The railway line from Ormož towards Ljutomer leads through Ivajkovci thanks to a local gentleman Mr. Petovar, who was a member of the Parliament in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians in the year 1922 when the railway line was being built.
Ivanjkovci is a central town settlement. The Ivanjkovci Municipality comprises of the settlements Stanko Vraz's Cerovec, Dobrovščak, Hujbar, Ivanjkovci, Lahonci, Libanja, Mali Brebrovnik, Mihalovci, Svetinje, Pavlovski Vrh, Runeč, Stanovno, Strezetina, Veličane, Žerovinci and Žvab. The meadows prevail in the valley, the fruit gardens blossom on the slopes, however, the vineyards are in the sunniest positions.
Ivanjkovci, which was first mentioned in the year 1433, was in the past the seat of the Svetinje Municipality, which belonged under Ptuj district. In the valley of the Pavlovci stream, by the road Ormož–Ljutomer, stands the late Baroque chapel of St. John of Nepomuk that was renovated in the year 1886. At that time it obtained a new statue of the saint made by the Slovenske gorice Hills’ artist Leopold Perko.
Worth visiting:
- The Church of the Mother of Sorrows
- Church of All Saints, Lord's house and the old school at Svetinje
- Malek vineyard cottage
- Stanko Vraz's birth house at Cerovec
